Born and raised in Muskingum County, April retired in January 2019 with 30 years of service with the Muskingum County Court System and the State of Ohio. She is heading into her 11th year instructing in several Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Academies and Private Security Officer Academies in the State of Ohio. April currently serves as Executive Director of The Animal Shelter Society, Inc., after serving 8 years on the Board of Directors. She states that “Running the day-to-day operations of the Animal Shelter has been the hardest job I have ever had”.

April is a graduate of West Muskingum Schools and holds am A.A.S. Police Science Degree from Zane State College (MATC). She is also a graduate of the Jo Ann Davison Leadership Institute and of Ohio Officers Training Commission Probation Officers Academy. Additionally, she has completed 33 instructor’s topics with the Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Academy along with 17 instructional courses from the Supreme Court of Ohio Judicial College.

April is associated with several organizations and/or serving on Board of Directors on the local, state and federal levels. These include Rotary International, Ohio Bailiff Association, Honor Flight of Ohio, COPS, Professional Business Women of Zanesville, Ohio, Ohio Township Association, National Law Enforcement Memorial, Power of the Purse Committee, Administrators in Shelter Management, The Shelter Administration of Administration of Veterinarians, Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra, and Wreaths Across America (Arlington Cemetery). She is a past board member of American Red Cross, Fraternal Order of Police, Veterans Appreciation of Muskingum County and Restored Citizens Network.

April believes that the most important membership that she currently carries is being part of the Working Wonder Women. Being a part of the WWW permits her to do what she does for the Animal Shelter Society, Inc, and her community.

April’s biggest joy over the past 30 years is being the wife of Dr. John Gibson. John is program director and professor of the Criminal Justice Program and Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training at Zane State College. Together, they have several fur children who have all been rescued.

April is excited to be raising funds for The Animal Shelter Society, Inc. A private, not-profit organization, The Animal Shelter Society, Inc exists to promote and protect the health, safety, and welfare of homeless animals in Muskingum County through the dedicated efforts of employees, volunteers, Board of Directors, and the generous support of our caring community.
